I hope this thread does not become too controversial. With marijuana being legalized in many states, what should Grand Lodge policies with regard to both its use by members and at lodge functions be?

In some states, recreational use of marijuana is legal under state law but at the same time it is still presently a violation of federal law. If the federal law is changed to allow use of marijuana for recreational purposes and if it is legal in the state in which you reside, then there shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps in time to come, the use of marijuana for recreational purposes will be looked at as the same way the consumption of alcoholic beverages is viewed today. In states such a Pennsylvania where the consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted at lodge functions, should recreational use of marijuana become legal (both at a state level and federal level), it may be still banned at lodge functions.

There is a Grand Master's edict in Massachusetts which reads as follows:
The scope of all Grand Masters edicts which reference
the advertisement, use or consumption of alcohol in
Masonic Lodges is hereby expanded to include
any drug or substance known to impair human behavior
(specifically, but not limited to, marijuana) (March 8, 2017)

I don't know whether or not PA has such an edict and suspect there might be a similar edict since the consumption of alcohol is not permitted in our lodge buildings.

If marijuana is fully recognized as a drug, then I don't see the GL having any say so about it's use. But, if recognized for recreational use then I expect it to be treated the same as alcohol

Yes, I was wondering about the legalization of marijuana for recreational use.
