I started to put this in the Laughing Corner, but it is no joke; although very laughable.

Brothers & Sister De   .... Do you realize that VP Pence has a shot at becoming the President!

.... A weak chance; but it could happen.    Per the US Constitution if no Candidate receives the majority Electoral College vote; then the House of Representatives by vote decides who is the next President.    .... Should the House fail to decide (per its dead line), then the decision goes to the Senate.   .... If there is no agreement or elected President at 12 noon January 21, then the current Vice President of the US shall be sworn in as the New President.

The Republicans are attempting to set aside the Electoral College vote; .... the Republicans controls the House & Senate;   .... I think there are enough Republicans that do not support Trump that simply keeping the election process from being finalized will then allow Pence to become President on January 21.

Is this history in the making!   .... Please I'm only pointing out the historical implications of what is happening with the current election process.   .... And yes this is on a thin line of our rule not to discuses politics within the forum.  So please watch what is posted in your comments.  I don't want to have to lock this thread or post;  so no political views or campaigning in the replies, neutral comments only

Very interesting and not a bad idea.  I am disgusted at every part of our judicial system for ignoring the openly blatant voter fraud across this country.

Actually you have hit upon one of the very reasons the Electoral College was created; ie: the corruptibility of the poplar vote.

The Framers of the Constitution distrusted the general popular vote.  However, allowing Congress to elect the President would conflict with the separation of powers of the three Branches. The Electoral College system was then laid out within the Constitution as a completely independent electoral body for the election of the President and V President.  Those Electors must not be a Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States.   …. Per Alexander Hamilton, the electors come directly from the people and them alone, for that purpose only, and for that time only.

It’s in the news this week that Republicans have filed suit in the Courts to set aside the Electoral College vote and VP Pence has filed a motion with the courts to have the suit dismissed.     I do not know the specifics of that suit, but one can guess.

  • The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.  …This could be contrary to the popular vote of citizens of that state.
  • The U.S. Supreme Court has held that, without congressional consent, agreements that increase states' political power by encroaching on federal power violate the Compact Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
  • A number of States have bound their Electors by Oath and legal penalties should they cast their vote contrary to the popular vote (State’s or otherwise).   …. This defeats the intent of the Constitution Electors and their in-dependency and could be corrupted by a corrupt popular vote by doing so.

If the Republican suit is based upon or contains these facts, then it would appear they have solid grounds to push the suit.   ….

And this sets up the scenarios for my post above ......

Your US Constitution at work!

The question is whether or not the Supreme Court has the power to set aside a Constitutionally prescribed action; ie, the Electoral Vote.
