    Posted: October/12/2009 at 9:30am
Please be advised, a bogus email is circulating that appears as if it was sent by the Systems Administrator at Mastermason.com.  THIS IS A FRAUD.  Do not click the link included in the message.

The email message is reproduced below.

Subject: Read carefully - Important User Notification

Attention!

On October 16, 2009 server upgrade will take place. Due to this the system may be offline for approximately half an hour. The changes will concern security, reliability and performance of mail service and the system as a whole. For compatibility of your browsers and mail clients with upgraded server software you should run SSl certificates update procedure.
This procedure is quite simple. All you have to do is just to click the link provided, to save the patch file and then to run it from your computer location. That's all.

[bogus link to an EXE file -- DO NOT CLICK.]

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter and sorry for possible inconveniences.

Would it be fair to say, that those who receive this e-mail, are the ones that post their e-mail addresses on-line or list their e-mail in the "Personal particulars"?

If so, it's a good reason not to give it out freely.

tm274,

I think it is also likely to reach anyone that is a webmaster for a Mastermason.com web site, or a contact listed on such a web site.  In any case, just delete the message and do not click on the link.  This is not a legitimate email from Mastermason.com.

Can you save the file and send it to me as a zipped file?    I would try to look at it with a Hex editor.
