I believe that every American and every Mason should do all of these things: 1.-Spend a night in jail 2. Attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. (or equivalent like Narcotics Anonymous) 3. Visit a psychiatric hospital 4. Visit a veterans hospital, and see the cost of freedom 5. Work one day in a soup kitchen or charity cannery . 6. Work one day as an election judge and see democracy up close 7. Visit our nation's capital. 8. visit a housing project, and see the results of 4 generations of welfare. 9. Visit the cities of New Orleans, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. 10. Visit at least 2 national parks (especially if you are an adopted [naturalized] American) 11. Read the US constitution in its entirety What do you think? I would like to assemble a list with your input. (This topic is posted elsewhere on this forum.) I am interersted to see what other Masons think should be added ------------- Charles E. I am sure I will think of more, but.... Take out all of the cities listed in No. 9 and replace it with one: Washington, DC. I remember going on a family vacation to Washington, DC when I was 7 (I think). I was during the Johnson administration (Lyndon, not Andrew!) My father was so conservative he made Rush Limbaugh look like a liberal! But we went to Washington to see the White House and to see our Senators and Representative because my father wanted to make sure that my sister and I knew that whomever lived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we must respect the office even if we don't respect the officer... for the time being. ------------- Wentzville (MO) Lodge #46 - PM Pride of the West (MO) Lodge #179 - PM (twice) Pauldingville (MO) Lodge #11 - Secretary Warrenton (MO) Lodge #609 - Secretary Past DDGM - 25th Masonic District |

I would love to go to Washington to visit Arlington, the Unknown Soldiers tomb, the Wall, Kennedy's grave, etc.

If you come to WashDC, please see the George Washington National Masonic memorial. Also you should see the Holocaust museum. Many freemasons were killed by the Nazis. ------------- Charles E. I would add visit the AASR SJ Temple in D.C.

There are all sorts of interesting things to do, and interesting places to visit, in the Metro WashDC area. The Marine Corps museum, the WW2 and Vietnam memorials, the museums (most are FREE, or low cost). ------------- Charles E. There are many things to do and see in the Metro WashDC area. Most of the museums are free or low-cost. If you have not been here for some years, a revisit should include seeing the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Marine Corps Museum. ------------- Charles E. By all means volunteer at a soup kitchen. Better yet, dress down and stay three nights 'incognito' at any homeless shelter (and see what really happens at those places). ------------- Please Note: I am not a Mason. And also, I am not an anti-Mason! |
